abstract = {Modern distributed systems are component based. Due to the distributed nature and complexity of such systems, new requirements
concerning their testing arise. Components communicate via well-defined interfaces. The target of testing is to validate the behavior of
(a set of) components at their interfaces.
The paper presents an approach to build a test system itself from test components, which interact with the components under test via
their interfaces. For the development of such test systems, a framework is proposed which contains base types for test components with
generic behaviour for the setup and configuration of a test system and for the exchange of coordination messages between test components.
For the specification of a test system the same method as for the specification of the system under test is proposed: UML. The paper presents
generic test components of the framework and how concrete test components can be derived. The test framework can be used not only for
the development of functional tests but also for e.g. performance and load tests. An example of using the test framework is given.},
